The Plasser Vacuum Scraper-Excavator VM 170 is designed for the efficient removal of various types of material from railway track. The machine is especially useful in areas where obstracles may prevent full utilisation of other methods. The VM 170 quickly and efficiently removes ballast from track, switches and crossings with awkward access, such as around station platforms, road crossings, bridge approaches, interlocks, tunnels, etc.

The machine can also create drainage ditches and excavations for cables, poles and foundations. The VM 170 can also be equipped to vacuum trash and debris.
